ELP Receives Recognition from the U.S. Department of State’s Office of English Language Programs

On Thursday, July 16th, the University of Pennsylvania English Language Programs (ELP) was recognized by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs Office of English Language Programs at a virtual awards ceremony for their creation and implementation of online courses through the Online Professional English Network (OPEN) Program, formerly known as the American English E-Teacher Program. Elizabeth Gillstrom, the ELP Manager of Testing and Programs, accepted this award on behalf of the 

ELP Student Center Continues Virtual Engagement with End of Session Party

On Friday, June 12th, the English Language Programs held a virtual End of Session party, serving as a celebration of the end of the Summer 1 2020 session, and as a farewell for those students moving on to the rest of their academic journey. During this virtual party, students, staff and teachers at the ELP gathered together to socialize and celebrate.

John Cotton and Amy Nichols present on International Graduate Student Orientation

ELP Manager of Instructional Staff Development John Cotton and LPS Director of Implementation, Assessment, and International Initiatives Amy Nichols developed a presentation entitled “International Graduate Student Orientation: Specific Needs and Successful Approaches.” Nichols delivered the presentation at the NAFSA Region VIII Conference in November 2017.

ELP instructors mentor emerging TESOL teachers

ELP instructors are dedicated to helping novice TESOL teachers develop their skills in the classroom. Current instructors Eve Nora Litt, Ian Nichols, Maria Paredes Fernandez, and Amanda Thompson mentor TESOL Master of Science in Education candidates from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education. TESOL candidates teach at practice sites throughout Philadelphia while receiving guidance from experienced Mentors.
