As of the end of February 2023, the English for Career Development (ECD) Coursera MOOC created by Penn English Language Programs had enrolled over 2 million learners worldwide. The course launched in 2016. Since 2017, the course has held a position amongst the ten most popular Coursera courses worldwide, ranking sixth in 2022.
The ELP is excited to announce that Jessica Keating Whitney is our new Student Services and Programs Manager! Jessica has been our Student Services Coordinator for five years. As the Student Services Coordinator, she has gone above and beyond to enhance the student experience and promote student satisfaction for all ELP students. Her role has involved planning orientation activities and socio-cultural events, managing the ELP Student Center and supervising its staff, advising students on non-academic issues and connecting them to appropriate Penn resources, and more.

Banco Santander is once more granting 1,000 "Santander Languages - English to boost your career 2022 Scholarships" to the English Language Programs at the University of Pennsylvania to help learners increase their command of professional English.
Non-native English speakers above the age of 18 who are interested in advancing their careers are eligible to apply. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to study English for Professional Development, English for Business and Entrepreneurship, and English for S.T.E.M. The program will run January 30-March 4, 2023.
What a wonderful Fall 1 Session! With the season changing, this session has become even more memorable. There have been a lot of things that have been done in the past two months.
Students spent a lot of time in the student center and playing board games with friends has never been more enjoyable!
Develop a foundation for university-level English and explore a variety of academic subjects and professional communication in English in the Institute for Academic and Professional Studies program. This program runs for four weeks and there are two offerings. The first, from January 9-February 3, 2023 and the second, from February 6-March 3, 2023.

Language Specialist María Paredes Fernández participated in the 2022 Berlin Marathon where she finished the 42.2km (26.2 miles) race in 3:18:37. This was a personal best time by 14 minutes and it also meant that she qualified to run in the 2024 Boston Marathon.
The ELP is extremely proud of María and is ready to cheer her on in 2024 in Boston as well as in all the races between then and now.
