Penn's English Language Programs is offering a workshop series on completing graduate writing tasks in English. The series is recommended for international master's degree, PhD, and post-doc students who use English as a second language. As the series will build on skills, students should plan to attend all five workshops in the series.
In these workshops, you will improve your:

  • Understanding of the writing conventions and stylistic features of academic American English and your field
  • Word choice, clarity, accuracy, and flow of academic written language
  • Noticing and self-editing skills

Workshop series topics

  • Session 1: Writing problem/solution texts
  • Session 2: Composing an extended definition
  • Session 3: Writing a process description
  • Session 4: Language for data commentary
  • Session 5: Developing an effective summary
