About the workshop

Penn's English Language Programs is offering a workshop series on pronunciation and presenting in English. The series is recommended for international master’s students, PhD students, and post-doc fellows, and will include five two-hour workshops. As the series will build on skills, students should plan to attend all workshops in the series.

In these workshops, you will:

  • Make your intended meaning clearer with accurate segmental pronunciation
  • Improve word and sentence stress, linking, and intonation to enhance pronunciation
  • Increase clarity of presentational language and delivery
  • Improve self-monitoring of your language for accuracy

Workshop series topics

  • Segmental pronunciation and diagnostics
  • Word stress and field-specific term pronunciation
  • Sentence (focus) stress
  • Linking words and reducing sounds
  • Intonation for oral sentences and paragraphs

Financial aid

If you are not able to cover the cost of the workshop series, please complete the workshop registration form and indicate that you intend to apply for one of the financial aid awards. The deadline for applying for financial aid is October 19.

The ELP has a limited number of financial aid awards available due to the generosity of the Graduate and Professional Student Assembly (GAPSA)the Penn GSE master's in intercultural communication, and the Greenfield Intercultural Center.
