I moved to the United States in February of 2020, just before the pandemic rose and the lockdown began. During the first month, I struggled deciding what to do with the situation because I couldn’t find a job as an engineer. After several weeks, I finally decided to move forward and I started to study photography as a professional field. This was one of my goals for many years and I was finally able to do it. In this matter, I was worried about my English skills and the way I wanted to communicate with others here in the United States. One of the basic abilities that you need to be in the business is communication with clients. This is the reason why I came to ELP, and what I achieved so far was more than I expected.

"Overall, I feel that the ELP was a really good opportunity for me to improve my abilities with this language. Besides, I lost the fear to speak openly even when I know that I will make mistakes because, at the end, that is the way you learn."

Remote learning is something that we all are facing for the first time this year, and sometimes you are not sure if the results will be in your favor. In this case, it was.  I “met” great people (teachers and students) with great personalities and the same energy to learn as myself. I was able to learn not just about English skills, but other cultures and lifestyles.

Maybe the most intense change in my life since ELP was the routine. I changed my schedule inside the house and tried to balance my English and photography classes with homework. COVID-19 was a real challenge for all of us but in my case, it was an opportunity to apply my organization skills and learn new ways for personal development. In the other side, my favorite part of the classes were the stories that I heard from other students because I could learn how people in college manage their life nowadays. Telling others about my own stories was really fun as well. I also discovered that I really like writing essays.

Overall, I feel that the ELP was a really good opportunity for me to improve my abilities with this language. Besides, I lost the fear to speak openly even when I know that I will make mistakes because, at the end, that is the way you learn.
