ELP Lecturer Carlo Cinaglia presented at the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) annual conference last month in Portland, Oregon. The title of his presentation was "'We can't teach them writing. Can you?' Curriculum Design Meets the Needs of L2 Writers in Different Disciplines."
Writing programs in US universities must support an increasingly diverse student body with unique needs and challenges. This project focused on one univerity's attempt to design a course to develop L2 writers' academic literacy competencies and prepare them for success in English medium academic environments. The project highlighted potential challenges faced within L2 instruction and possible approaches to meeting the diverse needs of L2 writers.
