What Ms. Ryan does: She oversees and teaches in content-based English programs for visiting international undergraduates and professionals. This involves leading teams of teachers and staff to create programs, develop curriculum, and manage events and other program logistics. One of her favorite parts of the job is finding ways to help students connect with the larger Penn community and the rich local culture outside of the classroom. She also enjoys designing curriculum for courses in English for specific academic and professional purposes. Most recently, she contributed to the development of the ELP’s English for Business & Entrepreneurship course on Coursera.
Experience: She began teaching in 2004 and has worked at the ELP for eight years as an instructor and program administrator. She has also worked for the U.S. Department of State’s Office of English Language Programs, where she designed instructional materials and led teacher training programs for international audiences.
Travels: She studied abroad in London for a semester as an undergraduate and later spent a year teaching English in Bangkok, Thailand. While living abroad, she enjoyed traveling around Western Europe and Southeast Asia. More recently, she and her husband spent their honeymoon camping in Patagonia and touring around Chile. This year, they traveled to Iceland for a friend’s adventure wedding.
